Whether you’re planning to sell or simply looking to enjoy a more stylish living space, the right design choices can enhance the appeal of your home.
House prices have risen an average of 4.9% in the last year but it’s still important to make design decisions that will not only elevate your space but also offer the best return on investment.

Interior design styles to boost your home’s value
Embrace minimalism
When you embrace minimalist principles, you focus on quality over quantity, choosing only the essentials. This approach allows your space to breathe and often makes it appear larger, which is a highly desirable feature for prospective buyers. It’s also appealing because it offers a blank canvas, allowing them to imagine their own style within the space.
In fact, according to research from fitted furniture experts, Hamonds, over one in ten Brits (11%) surveyed claimed they would offer up to £5k above the asking price for a minimalist home. But the trend is most popular among 18–24-year-olds, with 12% saying they would offer up to £10k over.
To create the look, make sure to declutter surfaces, keep your furniture streamlined and choose neutral colours such as whites, greys and soft blues help create an airy and open atmosphere.
Incorporate farmhouse décor
This style is not only popular but practical, combining rustic charm with modern functionality. Introducing farmhouse elements to your home can increase its appeal, especially in areas like the kitchen, living room and dining areas.
What’s more, 34% of those surveyed claimed they would offer above the asking price for this style. The trend is also increasing in popularity, with searches for the style up 90% in the last three months.
To achieve the look, consider adding wooden beams, vintage-style furniture or open shelving to create a welcoming, lived-in atmosphere. Reclaimed wood features, such as a farmhouse-style table or wood-framed mirrors, can introduce both character and functionality.
Avoid going too bold
The maximalist look is all about bold patterns and vibrant colours, but it can easily overwhelm a space, making it harder for potential buyers to visualise their own tastes.
Excessive clutter and mismatched furniture can create a chaotic atmosphere that detracts from the home’s value, with almost a third of Brits admitting they’d offer below the asking price for a home decorated in this style.
Instead, strive for a more balanced approach that keeps things engaging without crossing into sensory overload. While statement pieces can add personality, they should complement the overall design rather than dominate it. For example, a feature wall with a pop of colour can work well but avoid making every room a loud statement.
Effective staging
Staging your home is one of the most impactful ways to boost its value. Ensure that rooms are clean, well-lit and free from excess furniture. You want the space to feel open, so remove items that make rooms feel cramped. Arrange furniture to create clear pathways and use mirrors to reflect light and make spaces seem larger.
It’s also important to add finishing touches such as indoor plants, fresh flowers or art pieces that enhance the atmosphere without overcrowding.
