It's Not Too Early To Start Prepping Your Chrismas Lunch!
Kate Hall (The Full Freezer) and Hayley Steere (Free My Meal) are joining forces this winter to help ease the pressures of the festive season.
Both Kate and Hayley sent up their websites during the pandemic. Kate shared how she uses her freezer more effectively to reduce food waste and make cooking from scratch easier. Kate doesn't batch cook; she freezes individual food items so they can be cooked on another day. Hayley, a former single mum who knows all too well the difficulties being faced, her website creates connections between people who need a meal, with people who can provide a meal. Free My Meal is now a registered charity (non-profit) and has 70+ UK and international groups with over 27,000 group members.
With food prices through the roof, and energy bills on everyone’s minds, Kate and Hayley have created a Christmas campaign to help people prep their Christmas dinner in advance over the coming months and even donate a meal for those unable to afford their own. Using Kate’s expert freezer knowledge and Hayley’s extensive community network, ‘Freeze My Meal’ provides a free downloadable PDF sharing how to prep and freeze key Christmas dinner ingredients and how to cook them (mostly straight from frozen).
The PDF gives you all the information you need on preparing your food for freezing, cooking times and even videos to provide you with hints and tips.
It is perfectly safe to freeze all of these foods for a few months (if not longer), so you can start to prep for your Christmas dinner as soon as you like! This means there's no need for any mammoth sessions in the kitchen; you can just prep one thing at a time.
There is also a Facebook Page which allows you to network with others, ask questions and get support with your home freezing!
There is an option to make a donation to help those unable to afford Christmas year, have enjoy a Christmas dinner as well, although this is not a requirement of using the site. Last year, Kate’s Christmas preparations were featured by Steph’s Packed Lunch, The Sun, The Telegraph, BBC Food, MyLondon, BBC Radio and even mentioned on The Drew Barrymore Show!
