So, what's the Everup App, what does it do, and why should you use it?
Everup was a savings app with the possibility of winning cash prizes that I've written about previously. It was a bit of a meh app, but it has transformed itself into a gift card cashback service!
So, what is the Everup app?
When I first wrote about Everup, it was a savings account service that awarded customers virtual coins based on their savings. The more a saver saves, the more coins they earn. These virtual coins can then be used to play the Everup suite of games and lotteries, which offer customers the chance to win daily tax-free cash prizes, plus entry into a weekly draw that could win you a life-changing million pounds! It wasn't, in my view, an amazing app, but it did have its benefits. I wasn't interested in messing about setting up bank accounts, nor did I have a use for another savings account, so I didn't use it.
So, what has changed with Everup, and what are its benefits?
The banking aspect of Everup seems to have disappeared completely and instead been replaced with the facility to earn cash back on gift card purchases, similar to the big boy cashback apps offering gift card cashback, namely, JamDoughnut and Cheddar. If you aren't sure what gift card cashback is, it works like this for all the gift card, cashback services - Buy a gift card from the gift card shop on the cashback app for one of the retailers that the app has partnered with. You'll then be able to use that gift card either in-store or online (possibly both, depending on the retailer), with the retailer. In return for buying that gift card, you'll be awarded instant cashback on your purchase, which will be applied to your cashback account. Once you reach the minimum cashback withdrawal amount, you can withdraw the money to your bank or use that balance to buy a gift card for a retailer.
The Everup app works pretty much the same way; the only difference was that you couldn't withdraw your cashback to your bank; you need to use that cashback to buy a gift card, but that has now changed and once you have £10 in cashback you can withdraw that to your bank, minus a 30p admin/processing charge.
Personally, I'm not overly sensitive about not being able to receive actual cash; I'm super likely to buy a gift card with the cashback I earn on a cashback app anyway, although I do appreciate that every extra penny I can add to my current account is useful, I'm probably going to spend it at one of the major UK supermarkets!
What is turning Everup into an exciting money-saving app for the money-saving community are the cash-back rates being offered. Everup offer competitive cashback, but I always recommend looking around for the best deals on everything, including cashback. A minute of flicking through cashback apps to find the best deal can make all the difference to your wallet!
The above video gives examples of the cashback rates when this blog post was published and rates are subject to change at any time.
Everup offered unbeatable cashback over its rivals when it first launched, which I would guess was a loss leader designed to attract new users and increase the app's customer base and market share in this competitive industry. The rates have now stabilised somewhat, but they do still offer some good deals and are very competitive in regards to matching and attempting to beat rivals' cashback rates.
Everup prize games
Everup has given its customers another reason to keep using the app: prize promotions, which can make your shopping experience rewarding if you like the occasional gamble!
The Everup team has kept its scratch card games, daily lotto, and very impressive opportunity for you to win £1 million in its weekly lottery potentially! These prizes are worry-free gaming, because you don't use real money to play, so you can't get into any sort of debt playing, as Everup has continued using virtual coins as your currency to play the games. So it's a safe way of gambling for real cash prizes; it's more of a gambling simulator than actual gambling as you can't lose any of your hard-earned cash, only points, yet you could win real money!
How do you get these virtual coins, I hear you ask? Cleverly, on top of giving you cashback when you buy a gift card, they also give you more virtual coins for you to use to play the games. Why play the games? By playing roulette-type games and numerous scratch games on the app, you can win extra cashback, which is applied to your account and can be used to buy a gift card when you have enough.
Prizes on a scratch game tend to be on the low side, perhaps 5p or 25p, but I do know someone who recently won £ 25, which was a top prize, so people can win larger amounts. More often than not, I've not won much cold, hard cash, although I have won a few quid, but instead won tons of free virtual coins, which allow me to play more games.
You are often given free daily opportunities to play scratch games and also a free spin, or two, on the roulette wheels without using your coins. Once you've used all your free plays, you can use your coins to keep on playing.
Each category of prize promotion requires different amounts of virtual coins to play; some of the more basic games, with lower prizes, cost 1,000 coins. The other higher-end games, with bigger prizes, can cost anything up to 500,000 coins, which can eat into your coin balance pretty quickly!
You can get a daily free entry into the daily raffle, which has a top prize of normally under £100, plus occasional extra prizes such as gift cards. You can buy extra entries into the draw for 200k coins.
There used to be a free weekly entry into the Million Lotto draw, where a £1M is was for grabs (paid out over a 40-year annuity), however this seems to have been removed form the app sadly, which is. a shame as that was a nice bonus; after all, who doesn't want a free chance to win a million quid?
The excitement of free games is a good reason for shoppers to keep coming back if they want something more than just an everyday shopping experience after all, Everup is the only cashback app to offer these kinds of free games on a daily basis.
That said, the cashback app JamDoughnut offers the daily Jammy Dough gameshow via the app, from Monday to Friday at 1 pm for half an hour, where anyone watching the show could win prizes from £1 of cashback credit or up to £100 gift card of their choice by simply watching the show live. They also offer the Win It Back show, which is on the app at 4pm, giving users the opportunity to win back up to 100% of what they paid for a gift card from particular retailers in the previous 23 hours. I've been a guest presenter on both the shows, and they are fun ways to win some extra money, with many hundreds of people getting involved daily, but very different to Everup's experience of scratch cards and lotteries, which does make Everup an unusual and fun cashback site for those shoppers who like a bit of entertainment of top of their cashback!
So, is it worth using the Everup app?
If you want to give Everup a whirl, and unless anything radically changes, I absolutely believe it's a decent app to have sat on your phone. The competitive cashback rates make it worth checking when buying a gift card. Even though I'm very loyal to some of its rivals for lots of different reasons that aren't in any way related to Everup, I will and do take advantage of Everup's cashback service, and as I have for many years, I will continue to play the fun games several times a week.
Use our Everup referral link to sign up (or use referral code REF-PENNY-P once you've cashed out £10 or cashback or prize winnings. Everup will give you 5 million free virtual coins that you can use to play the games and win cash or prizes. If you do happen to win, please don't forget me; I'd quite like a new car, please!
