Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day is back for 2024!
Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops will celebrate Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day on April 16th, 2024. On this day, Ben & Jerry’s employees will offer a free scoop of ice cream or a free ice cream cone of your choice to all ice cream lovers worldwide, which is a sweet deal!
You can grab either a free cone or scoop in a cup, and you can rejoin the line afterwards and get another if you want; it's basically unlimited free ice cream; yup, give yourself a pinch; this isn't just a wonderful dream, it's for real! The only stipulation is that you have to go to participating scoop shops, (a physical Ben & Jerry's local shop), between Midday and 8 pm, to get the offer; it's not available in grocery stores or convenience stores etc, nor available through on-demand delivery services.
This isn't a new thing and not the first year you've been able to grab some of Ben & Jerry's homemade ice cream for free. This annual event started back in 1979 when Vermont-based ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's cofounders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield started giving out free cones to its customers via a gas station in Vermont and it's now turned into an annual fan appreciation event for the brand to say thank you to its loyal customers and local community, which normally takes place around the first day of spring, (in the USA, in the UK the dates can differ). The Ben & Jerry's founders are no longer at the helm of the ice cream company; they are out being busy campaigning about environmental issues and environmental injustice, it's now a subsidiary of Unilever, but the beloved tradition of the annual Free Cone Day celebration has been kept going, some 44 years after the annual tradition began, although it was put on hold for a while due to the Covid pandemic.
The Ben & Jerry’s fan appreciation day hasn't gone unnoticed by the ice cream company's competitors, especially in the US, with other ice cream companies, such as Dairy Queen, offering their own free cone day, so it's not uncommon for people to move around the local ice cream stores to grab as many freebies as possible!
There's a wide variety of super-premium ice cream on offer for your free scoop of Ben & Jerry ice cream. All flavours are on offer for the special day, including vegan desserts/Non-Dairy flavours, so everyone is welcome!
Personally, I'm still inconsolable that Ben & Jerry's discontinued the New York Super Fudge Chunk flavour in the UK (Chocolate Ice Cream with White & Dark Fudge Chunks, Pecans, Walnuts & Fudge-Covered Almonds), in the UK, which I loved, so I'm boycotting the free cone as a protest.... Nah, who am I kidding? They have lots of new flavours for me to try, so I'm going to go grab mine. I missed it last year, and it's the last time I'm going to miss out! I think I'm going to head straight for the chocolate chip cookie dough flavour; I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a free dollop of hot fudge to go with it, maybe some lots of big chunks of chocolate too, probably not, but I'll give it a try!
