Asda has re-instated its 10% discount offer in its stores for Blue Light Cardholders.
Workers in the NHS, Emergency Services, Social Services, Social care sector, and armed forces will be able to access the 10% discount in all Asda’s stores across the UK by presenting their Blue Light card and photo ID at checkout.
The discount offer includes food and soft drinks, George clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical.
The discount is not valid on George.com, Asda Online Groceries, Asda Tyres, Fuel, all alcohol, Tobacco, Lottery products, Gift Vouchers & Cards, Infant/Formula Milk, Cash-back, Fireworks, Online Games & Instant Tickets, Photo Printing, Saver Stamps, Postage Stamps, ‘Top-Up’ Mobile Phone Cards, any other online Financial Services and Insurances, Pharmacy & separate concessions.
It is not valid in an Asda Petrol Filling Station, Asda On The Move & Asda Cafes.
The news has been met positively by Blue Light cardholders, who can now make savings on their grocery shopping, and follows on from recent news of Iceland offering over 60's a 10% discount on purchases made in its stores. Other supermarkets will likely be looking at schemes to help their customers in similar ways, with announcements likely to be made shortly.
The news comes in the same week where inflation has jumped to 9%, meaning shoppers are now paying the highest prices in decades, and so every possible saving will help lessen the financial burden.
Inflation has soared, with the ONS stating the biggest price increases over the 12 months to April are:
Natural gas - 95.5%
Electricity - 53.5%
Motor fuels - 31.4%
Furniture and maintenance - 10.7%
Restaurants and hotels - 8%
Food and non-alcoholic drinks - 6.7%
If you are in one of the professions listed below, you can pay £4.99 for a 2-year membership to the Blue Light Discount scheme, which offers 15,000 discounts from UK retailers.
